Wellington!

12 februari 2019 - Wellington, Nieuw-Zeeland

Hello!

Here we are again! Last days we've been to Wellington as said in the last post, and it was very good! We discovered all of the city, and I'll give you a day by day description of our time there.

We arrived in Wellington on Thursday evening, so after we arrived we just got something to eat and then chilled in our hotel room.

On Friday morning we decided to go and climb Mt. Victoria, which was located just in the backyard of our hotel, so to say. We walked all the way up, and then noticed that we also could've taken the bus... But however it was a nice walk up to the top. Once we got to the top we got rewarded with a absolutely incredible view on the complete city!! You could see all parts of the city, like the centre and the harbour, but also the airport, which actually is quite far from the centre. In the afternoon we got into the city centre and discovered what was around. We had a delicious meal and then got back to our room to rest and have a good sleep for the next day.

On Saturday we walked to the I-site, from where we caught a shuttle bus to the eco-sanctuary Zealandia, which was just outside the centre. This was a beautiful reserve for native animals. We walked a route there and got to see some of the animals they got, but not as much as we thought we would see. This was a little disappointment, but nevertheless we had a nice walk there. In the afternoon we got to the Wellington Cable Car and did a ride on that, which was short but cool! We strolled a bit through the city afterwards, played some games in a game hall, and then got ourselves some fish and chips for dinner. After dinner we went back to the hotel again.

The Sunday started easy with a visit to the Te Papa museum, which is the national museum of New Zealand. The museum tells basically everything about the short but rich history of this country. The museum had some exhibitions about certain periods in their history, but we did not see them all. In the afternoon we went to the Westpac Stadium, which is the home base of Wellington Phoenix, but when we finally got there (after walking way to far) we got told that the stadium was closed..... We then went back to our hotel to have dinner there. After dinner we packed up a little as we got to leave our room the next morning.

So on Monday we still got a day to go, as our flight departed at 7pm. We went to a shopping centre outside the city, looked around there, shopped some clothes for Sterre and then headed back to the city centre. We strolled about a little, cause we didn't know what to do anymore, and filled up our time. We got to the airport quite early, chilled out there and then flew back to Hamilton. We got picked up by Louis and got back to them.

Today (Tuesday) we've been to the Waitomo glowworm caves and the Aranui cave, which were both so amazing to see!! Just incredible that nature is able to make such beautiful things! You almost can't describe what that's like, you've got to see it to know it.

Tomorrow we'll have a rest day, before going to the Coromandel from Thursday till Sunday, with Marie-Louise!

After we come back from the coromandel I will provide you with a new update on our trip! See you soon!

Anthony and Sterre
